KA at the MGM

This was an amazing experience unlike any I've ever had. It is a feast for the senses as the creators spent almost $170 million for this production. It is a story of twins tragically torn apart and their journey to being brought back together. The show is filled with some beautiful choreography and death-defying acrobatics that will keep your heart in your throat.

You can read about the plot, settings and incredibly interesting background information on Wikipedia.

Here are a few snippets:

STAGE

KÀ is the only Cirque du Soleil production to lack a traditional 'stage' and instead relies on floating platforms that rotate and move with the performers on top. This floating stage twists from horizontal to vertical, sprouting poles for performers to climb, and can be covered with sand for actors to hide within.

PRE-SHOW
There are three preshows for KÀ, unlike other Cirque du Soleil performances. Twenty minutes before curtain two musicians enter the lobby and climb up to two stringed instruments specially designed for KÀ and integrated into the architecture. Ten minutes before the show in the theatre, actors appear in the metal framework to the left and right of the stage and perform flips and leaps assisted with ropes to dive into the audience and attempt to scare viewers. Five minutes before showtime a staged act unfolds demonstrating how there is to be no flash photography or cell phone usage.

SOUND

Every seat in the KÀ Theater is equipped with a pair of stereo speakers at ear level. The digitally-mixed audio system can route sounds to these in-seat speakers, which when combined with the main house speaker system, can create a very dynamic surround sound audio experience.

Here's a link for one of the full commercials. It's average YouTube quality but you can capture the spirit and excitement of the production and will get your heart a-thumping.

Lastly, here's a link that highlights a few Cirque du Soleil productions. However, about one-third of the way through the clip, they focus on KA and the technological and choreographical intricacies used to create this monumental masterpiece.

The music is absolutely amazing as the audience is totally immersed in a feast of visual and audio grand theater.

The show including the pre-show items I mentioned in the blog was almost 2 hours. We get half
price bec. we're LV residents. Children under 10 are also 1/2 off. Not sure if that was a promo or it's always like that, though.
